Wixom is a small Oakland County city about 30 miles northwest of Detroit that was essentially built by the auto industry: it incorporated in 1957-58, the same time Ford opened its sprawling Wixom Assembly Plant, which for 50 years built Lincolns, the Thunderbird and both generations of the Ford GT supercar.
