Wayne sits on Michigan Avenue about 18 miles southwest of downtown Detroit, and more than a century of transportation manufacturing runs through it, from horse-drawn carriages to a modern Ford assembly line. The settlement started along the old Sauk Trail, the Chicago Road, under the name Derby's Corners, and took the Wayne name in 1836 in honor of Revolutionary War General 'Mad Anthony' Wayne.
