Your Local Keego Harbor Cleanout and Yard Crew

A half-square-mile lake town wedged into Oakland County's chain of lakes about 27 miles from downtown Detroit, Keego Harbor is one of Michigan's three smallest cities by land area yet packs a walkable downtown of restaurants, shops, and art galleries along Cass Lake Road and Orchard Lake Road. Its name is a phonetic spelling of the Anishinaabemowin word for 'fish,' borrowed from Longfellow's Song of Hiawatha, and its 'harbor' is a canal a real-estate developer cut between Cass Lake and Dollar Lake in 1912. Around 1912, Pontiac lawyer and real-estate investor Joseph E. Sawyer platted land and dug a canal from Cass Lake to Dollar Lake, which he called 'the Harbor.'

Local landmarks and gathering spots include Cass Lake, the large recreational lake forming the city's western and northern shoreline; Dollar Lake and Joseph Sawyer's 1912 canal connecting it to Cass Lake, the original 'harbor.'. A dense small-town dining scene (smokehouse barbecue, Cantonese food, Italian, and steakhouse fare) that draws visitors from across Oakland County.

The name is a Longfellow-era phonetic respelling of an Ojibwe word for 'fish' (giigoonh). Longtime local dining anchors include Gino's Pizzeria (opened around 1969-1971), Harbor Steak House (a fixture since the 1960s), and J-Bird Smoked Meats, a barbecue spot widely acclaimed across metro Detroit. Out in Keego Harbor, the team handles debris removal, seasonal lawn work, leaf and brush pickup and snow clearing from the busiest blocks to the quietest streets.
